Emailing: Challenge Frances
Final day's walk and we started with a "Challenge Frances" who volunteered
to stay silent all of today's walk in return for an extra fiver's
sponsorship from all of us. She succeeded!
We started at Brook at 0930 on a chilly overcast day. We saw a bit of
sunshine during the walk and a few showers.
What we will all remember are the strong winds especially on the high points
and a longish slog along the road as the path was diverted due to erosion..
We saw a lot of erosion as the cliffs can retreat 5 metres in a winter.
Scary for the homes near the cliffs and we saw some holiday camps that were
deserted due to erosion.
Dropped off high points and then had a few miles of comfort in sheltered
paths

Hi all superb days walking.
Excellent dry day without rain and sunshine towards the end so many red
faces!
Yesterday was a really tiring day as we had to walk on very muddy paths that
are really slippery.
You need to walk better paths the next day to appreciate how exhausting the
muddy paths are!
Today's walk started just outside Yarmouth and ended at Brook.
We saw the needles and walked around West High Down on the clouds.
Sea and cliff views were outstanding and we also saw some scary cliff
erosion.
Must be some nervous householders close to cliffs as some may end up on the
beach quite soon.

He'll waste away!!

Emailing: Arriving at Porchfield
Arriving at Porchfield. The path has to go a long way South to get around
Newton Bay as there isn't a bridge across the harbour entrance ( impossible
as yachts couldn't enter)

Emailing: East Cowes Chain ferry
East Cowes Chain ferry. Old technology that works although a bit noisy!
Takes us across the Medina to west Cowes which is the smarter part of Cowes.
We walk through the town centre past all sort of distractions such as cafes
offering all day breakfasts.
We then head west past Royal Cowes yacht club and along the coast.

And they're off. Slightly warmer than earlier in the week and still dry.
Plan is to walk to Yarmouth today 16 miles if full route followed, a short
cut is available for anyone with sore feet.
